Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meeting 2023 – ASHPC23

ASHPC23 continued the tradition of the annual Austrian HPC Meetings, held 2015 – 2020, and the Austrian-Slovenian HPC Meetings, held 2021 – 2022:

Bringing together scientists and technicians with a background and interest in supercomputing.

ASHPC23 kicked off on 12 June with an internal meeting for members of European high-performance computing (HPC) centers involved in joint activities within the EuroCC project. The meeting was dedicated to planning further collaborations of national HPC providers, HPC Competence Centers, and Centres of Excellence across Europe, mainly regarding joint training events and industry outreach.

The public part of ASHPC23 was held on 13–15 June. The program focused on various aspects of supercomputing, including AI and big data applications in academia and industry. The speakers shared interesting HPC use-cases and success stories, keynotes on exascale and quantum computing, and presentations of new HPC infrastructures and initiatives in Europe, among them the EU processor initiative and European Open Science Cloud.

About 100 participants from 10 countries attended the meeting this year, bringing multiple perspectives on HPC-related topics and presenting the latest research results. We thank all the participants for attending ASHPC23 and look forward to continuing productive discussions next year at ASHPC24.

ASHPC23 was organized by EuroCC Slovenia and EuroCC Austria – National Competence Centre for Supercomputing, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, Austria, in cooperation with the Institute of Information Science in Maribor (IZUM), Slovenia, the Slovenian consortium for high performance computing (SLING), the Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC), Austria, and the Research Area Scientific Computing in Innsbruck, Austria.
